IM3316 - Prior to use The correct operation of all rotary ironer's depends on a consistent wash process. There should be no residual detergent in the laundry prior to ironing and the residual moisture content should be 50%. Residual detergent The wash process should be checked (pH level) to ensure that there is no trace of detergent at the end of the wash program. If detergent is found - the amount of detergent must be reduced or additional rinses added to the wash program. Any detergent left from the wash process will cause brown marks to appear on the laundry after ironing - this is known as 'gauling'. Manually adding extra chemicals such as stain busters, etc., can also lead to this problem. (The brown marks can be washed out as scorched detergents, not the fibres of the laundry itself, cause them.) Calculation of residual moisture. For optimum quality, residual moisture content of 50% is required. % residual moisture = (weight wet - weight dry) x 100 __________________________ weight dry The residual moisture content can be adjusted by altering the spin duration of the wash process or adding a short drying cycle prior to ironing. Once the correct wash process and residual moisture content have been established for each type of laundry, they should not be changed. IM3316 - Operation Safety Check for correct operation of finger guard every day. Do not touch any moving parts or the surface of the roller. Isolate power supply before removing any panels. Read the user manual prior to use. Carry out the routine maintenance as per the user manual. Start up procedure Check the ironing tapes and replace where necessary. Turn on electrical supply. Start the roller. Check the correct operation of the finger guard. Re-start the roller Select temperature. Switch on the heat. Allow iron to reach set temperature (approximately 10 minutes). Selecting the temperature The temperature depends on the type of laundry - a rough guide is 150°C for polycottons and other synthetic fibres and 170°C - 180°C for 100% cotton, linens, etc. Selecting the speed The speed should be adjusted so that the laundry is just dry. This will ensure maximum through put. If there are any signs of damp increase the speed slightly. General points Avoid ironing twice as there is an increased risk of scorching. Use the whole width of the drum to avoid hot spots. Do not iron blankets Avoid starch, as the laundry is likely to stick to the cylinder and leave deposits. Shut down procedure Switch off heat only (To prevent damage to the ironing bands it is important to allow the iron to cool down for 10 minutes before switching off the rotation of the cylinder). switch off iron isolate electrical supply. |
